Setting up AF Translate takes less than 2 minutes. Follow this step-by-step quick-start guide to install the plugin, connect your AI API keys, and run your first automated bulk translation.
Step 1: Install & Activate AF Translate
Option A: Directly from your WordPress Dashboard (Recommended) 1. Navigate to Plugins > Add New Plugin in your admin sidebar. 2. Search for “AF Translate” or “AF Translate AI”. 3. Click Install Now next to AF Translate, then click Activate.
Option B: Manual Zip Upload
1. Download the plugin zip package from WordPress.org.
2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin.
3. Choose the af-translate.zip file and click Install Now.
4. Click Activate Plugin.
Step 2: Configure Your AI Translation Provider (API Keys)

- Navigate to AF Translate > Plugins or AF Translate > Themes.
- Locate the plugin or theme you want to localize (e.g., WooCommerce, Elementor, your active child theme, or WordPress Core).
- Click Manage Translations next to your selected project.
Step 4: Add a New Language or Generate a POT Template
- If a
.potfile already exists: Click Add New Language, select from over 100+ global languages or regional dialects, and click Create File. - If NO
.potfile exists (Missing Language Template): Click Generate Template (POT). AF Translate’s smart code parser will automatically scan all PHP and JavaScript files in the project and compile a fresh, working.pottemplate instantly.
Step 5: Run 1-Click Automated Bulk AI Translation
- Open your newly created language workspace.
- Click the Bulk AI Translation button at the top of the workbench.
- Select your AI engine, set your chunk batch size, and click Start Bulk Translation.
- Watch the progress bar as the AI processes, translates, and formats hundreds of strings in background loops without triggering PHP server timeouts.
- Review the translated text side-by-side in the visual sandbox editor and tweak any specific strings manually if desired.
Step 6: Save, Compile & Auto-Deploy (wp.i18n Compatible)
- Click Save & Compile.
