You can add the verse of the day without having to install the plugin, just by copying this code on your widget as an arbitrary text or HTML:

Or installing the plugin following these indications
- Upload the file to a wp-content/plugin
- Enable plugin
- Go to Appearance > widgets
- Drag the widget to the desired sidebar .
- Check the verse is displayed correctly!
- Widget: A Verse of the Day widget can be added to the sidebar of your WordPress, go to Appearance – widget ‘Daily Verse’
- Template: Insert this code in any place of the template
